SCHNEEBERGER linear guideways are not designed as load-bearing structural components, but as guiding components.
Horizontal installation indicates that the direction of motion runs horizontally. Similarly, vertical installation indicates that the direction of motion deviates from the horizontal plane.
Enclosed Configuration
An enclosed configuration is a fixed/fixed bearing arrangement. It can withstand moments and forces in any direction. Rigidity and running accuracy can be influenced by varying the preload.
Advantages and Features of Enclosed Configuration:
- Supports any operating position, load direction and moment loads
- Supports small guideway bases
- Must be preloaded. Therefore, rigidity and precision are improved
Enclosed Configuration Examples
Type R, RN or RNG linear guideway example
Type N/O or M/V linear guideway example
Type SK, SKD, SKC or SR recirculating unit with Type RD double-V guideway example
Type SK recirculating unit with Type R linear guideway example
Type NRT recirculating unit with Type E surface guideway example
Open Configuration
An open configuration is a fixed/loose bearing arrangement, offering the following advantages and features:
Advantages and Features of Open Configuration:
- Primarily used when loads are concentrated perpendicular to the guideway plane and deformation due to tensioning surrounding structures is not permissible
- Thermal lateral changes are compensated
- Large bearing spans can be easily bridged
- Requires large guideway bases
- Very easy to install, as machine components can be easily mounted and/or dismounted
Open Configuration Examples
Type R, RN or RNG linear guideway with Type W/Z surface guideway example.
In open configuration, height A of both pairs of guideways must be matched (see Chapter 7.5)
Type N/O or M/V suspended linear guideway with Type L/M surface guideway example.
Dimensions A and B must be height-matched
