Product Overview

MONORAIL MR is SCHNEEBERGER's flagship roller-type linear guideway system, designed specifically for machine tools. Exceptional rigidity, high dynamic and static load capacity, excellent running smoothness, and complete carriage sealing are the main features of MONORAIL MR.

Designed for Machine Tools

These features enable higher machining rates while improving geometric accuracy and surface quality of machined workpieces. The excellent overall rigidity and connection structure improve vibration behavior, reduce amplitude, and extend tool life.

SCHNEEBERGER has over twenty years of experience in designing and applying roller-type frictionless guideways, with more than 11 million carriages successfully deployed worldwide. The latest generation MR 4S carriages incorporate the latest technology:

New recirculation units (gray) for low-pulsation operation
Improved lubricant distribution, reduced leakage
More robust front plate with stainless steel plate and four-screw mounting
Replaceable transverse wipers
Optimized longitudinal and transverse wipers for better sealing performance

Full Compatibility

4S design carriages and previous carriage designs can both run on the same rail. Rail design remains unchanged, and accessories have been adapted to work with both 4S carriages and previous carriage designs.

MR System Features

O-Arrangement Geometry

Large internal load spacing achieved through O-arrangement. Combined with 90° offset raceways, forces can be absorbed evenly and efficiently from all directions, providing high moment rigidity.

Crowned "Barrel-Shaped" Rollers

Compared to ball guideways, roller guideways have flat and larger contact areas, resulting in significantly higher load capacity than ball guideways. The barrel shape allows the contact surface to automatically adjust to specific loads and provides smooth transition between loaded and unloaded recirculation zones, greatly reducing edge load wear while minimizing roller friction.

Trapezoidal Rail Profile

The trapezoidal rail profile optimizes the connection between the carriage cross-section and rail bottom to the base for maximum rigidity. This rail profile facilitates maintenance, allowing additional wipers to be replaced directly on the rail without complex carriage removal operations.

Fully hardened carriage body — No plastic deformation even under extreme conditions exceeding rated load
6 threaded fixing holes per carriage — Achieves maximum connection rigidity
Double-lip transverse wipers and longitudinal seals — Effectively prevents contaminant ingress, reduces lubricant loss
Synthetic material rolling element recirculation parts — Reduces noise and serves as additional lubricant reservoir
Visible lubrication distribution configuration — Black pin visible for standard distribution, gray pin visible for separate distribution
Replaceable wipers — Transverse wipers can be axially removed after detaching front plate, without carriage removal
Stainless steel front plate — Protects front plate from environmental effects and ensures precise accessory installation

Integrated Measuring Systems

MONORAIL MR can be combined with SCHNEEBERGER's integrated measuring systems for high-precision position feedback:

AMS 3B — Incremental measuring system based on MR roller guideway
AMSABS 3B — Absolute measuring system, knows position at power-up
AMSABS 3L — Absolute measuring system, supports unlimited length splicing

The measuring system combines high-precision linear encoders with MONORAIL guideways, simplifying installation without additional assembly or adjustment. Position measurement is close to the machining process with thermal expansion matching steel, eliminating the need for temperature compensation.
