16.4 Installation
16.4.1 General Instructions
- Before installation, the guide rail, machine bed, mounting plate, and fastening screws must all be at room temperature
- Always use a torque wrench to tighten fastening screws. See Chapter 16.5 for torque values
- Always press the reference surface of the guide rail against the reference surface of the machine bed. The guide rail can be positioned on both sides; the reference side of the carriage is on the opposite side from the carriage side with the company logo/model designation
16.4.2 MINIRAIL and MINISCALE PLUS
- When tightening fastening screws, start from the middle and alternate on both sides of the guide rail. Note the guide rails on multi-part MINIRAIL systems (Chapter 8.2)

16.4.3 MINIRAIL
Delivery includes a protective plastic rail (except for matched delivery). The carriage should be transferred directly from the protective plastic rail to the steel guide rail. This prevents dirt from entering the carriage or the carriage tilting, which would result in ball bearing loss.
Before transfer to steel guide rail, carriage is on protective plastic rail

16.5 Tightening Torques for Fastening Screws
Recommended torque values can be found in the table below. These values apply to oiled screws with a friction coefficient of 0.12.
For lubricated screws, the friction coefficient can be as low as 0.07. The corresponding torque values should be halved.
The following table shows torque values for fastening screws of strength class 12.9 (friction coefficient 0.125) and strength class A2-70 (friction coefficient 0.2) (according to DIN 912):
| Thread Size | Max. Tightening Torque (Ncm) | |
|---|---|---|
| Strength Class 12.9 | Strength Class A2-70 | |
| M1.6 | 28 | 20 |
| M2 | 60 | 30 |
| M3 | 210 | 110 |
| M4 | 500 | 260 |
